Cirque du Soleil’s Luzia Hits Marymoor Park

Cirque du Soleil’s Luzia Hits Marymoor Park

As someone who has never seen a Cirque du Soleil show, I was ecstatic when I received an invitation to the press and VIP showing of their new show, Luzia. Based on the bright and vibrant culture of Mexico, Luzia takes you on a journey through a dreamland where "light quenches the spirit and rain soothes the soul. " That's because the name Luzia is a fusion the sound of “luz” (light in Spanish) and “lluvia” (rain), two elements at the core of the show’s creation.

While opening night was Friday, March 31st, the press showing was on Thursday night. Nic and I drove a quick 20 minutes from Seattle to Redmond's Marymoor Park, where the big tent will be set up for Luzia until May 21st. You must pay to park, but luckily they accept cash and credit cards, for those like myself who never seem to have cash. Once parked, simply follow the sidewalk until you come across the yellow arch.

Step inside the big tent, grab some popcorn, a glass of wine, and get ready to be amazed! You'll watch as the morning sunrise awakens a monarch butterfly woman running with a giant metallic horse. In the next scene, acrobatic hummingbirds jump and dive through hoops while running on a giant treadmill. Act by act, you see the outstanding talent these performers bring to the stage as they immerse you into an experience unlike any other.

This was a great date night for Nic and I. While I definitely recommend checking out this show I want to share a quick reminder: the people in this show are incredibly talented, but people nevertheless. During our viewing, one of the performers was taken away on a gurney, after falling off a swing and hitting her back. KOMO reports that the show's production team says the performer will be returning to the show, once she's cleared to do so.
